"The Adelaide University Mathematics Society (AUMS) is one of the largest clubs on campus. While our society is mathematical by name, it is not exclusive to mathematics students. We run a wide range of events; including five BBQ's each year which are free for members. The Barbecue’s represents a low-pressure environment in which to meet and socialise with other students interested in mathematics - or just grab a free bite to eat. We also run a pubcrawl in first semester. Even if you aren't a big drinker, you're welcome to come along as you won't be the only one. If you are a big drinker, well, it’s a pubcrawl, you'll fit right in.
Throughout the year, we run a range of student presented talks on mathematics that you would not normally see in your degree. These are all aimed at an undergraduate level and have included a presentation of calculus without limits and a model of the impending zombie apocalypse. Last year we showed our first movie screening of the hit musical 'Fermat's Last Tango' which was a big success. We also continued our Quiz Night tradition (don't worry, no questions on mathematics) which sold out in two days!
Arguably our greatest service to members is the sale of past exams solutions. We sell past exam solutions to first year mathematics subjects as well as most second year mathematics subjects. An essential study guide, it is this sale that allows us to run our other events at a loss.
Largely, AUMS exists to provide a social environment for students interested in mathematics to meet and talk to each other. This is especially essential in first year where mathematics students rarely meet on their own. The friendships made in AUMS will last you through your degree and beyond. To this aim, we run a ""Meet and Greet"" each semester for students to do just that. For more information and these events, and anything else we might be doing visit our website at http://aums.org.au/ or our facebook page on http://www.facebook.com/AUMS2010 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org."
