Degree and year of study?

Namaste!

I am Akshay Kumar Agarwal, currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Lunar Geotechnics. My research focuses on “Site preparation and ground improvement on the Moon”. I am currently in my second year of study.

What inspired you to engage with the office and role(s) you currently hold?

As an International Student Officer at the University of Adelaide, I'm inspired by the profound impact I can make in the lives of fellow international students. My journey as an international student has instilled in me a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities that come with studying in a foreign country.

I am inspired by the chance to create a welcoming space, provide valuable assistance, and advocate for the diverse needs of our international student community.

The opportunity to contribute to the success and well-being of students navigating cultural, academic, and social adjustments resonates deeply with me. It's an honor to serve in a role where I can leverage my experiences to guide, support, and empower fellow international students throughout their academic journey.

What Clubs are you involved with at UofA?

Golden key international Honor Society, Activate Student Ministry, 180 Degree Consulting, Adelaide university IET on Campus, Advent Campus Connect, Civil Engineering Society.

What led you to join the club(s)?

First and foremost, the values and objectives upheld by these clubs strongly resonated with my personal beliefs and interests.

Furthermore, the clubs presented unique opportunities for growth, learning, and skill development.

The sense of community within these clubs was also a driving factor.

I deeply care about, and connect with like-minded individuals sharing similar passions. It has been a rewarding experience, allowing me to grow personally and contribute to something larger than myself.

Favourite holiday destination/activity?

Adventure trips involve exploring natural wonders and engaging in adrenaline-pumping activities. For instance, hiking in the Swiss Alps or bungee jumping in New Zealand are thrilling experiences. As a side note, I've already had the exhilarating opportunity of bungee jumping in Cairns. Embarking on safari adventures offers the chance to witness incredible wildlife, thriving in their natural habitats.
