Checking your AUU email with Microsoft Outlook

This tutorial focuses on setting up Microsoft Outlook 2013, but these settings are similar in other versions of Microsoft Outlook. You can set up previous versions of Microsoft Outlook by using the settings in this tutorial.

Setting up Outlook

You can setup Outlook to сheck your Email by doing the following:

Step 1. Under the File menu, find the "Add Account" button (this will vary slightly depending on your version of Outlook). May also saw "New Account.."
Step 2. On the Auto Account Setup menu, select the option Manual setup or additional server types, then click Next.

Step 3. On the Choose Service menu, click POP or IMAP option then click Next button.

Step 4. On the next screen POP and IMAP Account Settings, you are required to complete various fields related with your personal data, server and logon information. Fill in these fields.

  Below is a description of the fields:
 
Your Name Enter the name you want people you email to see, such as: Brad Pitt
E-mail Address Enter your full AUU email address, such as: department@auu.org.au
Account Type Choose if you want to use POP3 or IMAP. POP3 downloads and removes your emails from the server, while IMAP leaves them on the server. We recommend POP3 (this is the default option).
Incoming mail server Standard settings is mail.auu.org.au
Outgoing mail server (SMTP) We recommend using your current Internet Server Provider (ISP) for outgoing mail, or your University (exchange) address (yourname@adelaide.edu.au). Alternatively you can use mail.auu.org.au
User Name Enter your full email address, such as: myclubname@auu.org.au
Password Enter the password you use for this email address. We recommend checking the Remember Password option so Outlook will save your password.
Require logon using Secure Password Authentication Do not check this option.
Step 5. Click More Settings button.

Step 6. Click Outgoing Server tab, check My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication and then check Use same settings as my incoming mail server. Click OK button.

Step 7. Click Next button, Outlook will test the account settings.
Step 8. Outlook will now test and you will see: Log onto incoming mail server, and, Send test e-mail message. When they are complete click Close button.

Step 9. You will see the message "You're all set!" click Finish.

Congratulations, you have added your email account to Outlook.
