On Dit Editors

Meet our 2022 On Dit Editors

Habibah Jaghoori

On Dit has been something I’ve been involved in ever since I started Uni and it has helped me make so many connections and has led me to so many experiences.

I love literature and so an exclusive student magazine that was a range of fiction and non-fiction written work intrigued me. I believe in utilising all the tools provided to you to spread the stories, messages and ideas you believe in.

?? What do you hope to achieve at On Dit in 2022?

I hope to achieve a lot. Mainly I want to use it as a political platform because I believe everything is political. I really hope that we produce in 2022 will engage a lot of people.

? What three words would your friends use to describe you?

  1. Fiery
  2. Self-Confident
  3. Curious

?? What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?

I’ll be somewhere where there is nature. The beach mostly. Or with my nieces and nephews.

Jenny Surim Jung

I’ve always been interested in pursuing journalism. While I ended up choosing a different pathway at Uni, I still wanted to gain some experience in the field of media. Graphic design is something I picked up briefly in school and really got to learn when I was editing The Hilarian, and I absolutely fell in love.

?? What do you hope to achieve at On Dit in 2022?

I want to uphold the value of student media and culture and ensure that On Dit 2022 truly reflects the diversity of our university. On Dit and student media in a broader sense should be a reliable and inclusive platform for student affairs, and we will be working hard to achieve that.

?? What is something—big or small—that you are really good at?

I can make pretty decent vegetarian spaghetti.

?? What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?

Hungover brunch.

Grace Atta

On Dit will be celebrating 90 years of publication in 2022 – and so a big part of what I would like to do is carry on its legacy. I want the magazine to continue to be a space that celebrates diversity, is deeply tied to the student culture, and fosters the talents of the university’s writers, artists, poets, musicians and everything in between.

If you see me around, feel free to start up a conversation! Whether it be about On Dit or just to say hi – I’d love to chat.

?? What inspired you to engage with Student Media and the role at On Dit you currently hold?

Long-term my goal is to work as a journalist and so being a part of On Dit was a no-brainer. I was fortunate enough to work as a Student Affairs Reporter for On Dit in 2021 – where I reported on current university news and even live-tweeted at SRC & AUU meetings. Following a year in that role, I felt that I could really add value to On Dit in the capacity of editor; and so I ran with the amazing team that I now have the privilege to work alongside.

? What three words would your friends use to describe you?

asked them and the consensus was:

  1. Passionate
  2. Empathetic
  3. Determined

?? What is something—big or small—that you are really good at?

I’ve been writing poetry for a couple of years and although it is a craft I’m still working on, I do have a few pieces that I’m proud of. Aside from that, I’m also very talented at writing lists…sometimes just so I can have the satisfaction of ticking off tasks and feeling accomplished.

Chanel Trezise

I really want to engage with students more and help bring together an On Dit they want to read. I would also love to deep dive more into writing and arts which challenge the status quo and shed light on taboo and interesting topics.

?? What inspired you to engage with Student Media and role at On Dit you currently hold?

My love for writing and journalism definitely inspired me to run in the Student Media elections. I think writing (and journalism) has a rhythm that both soothes and stirs me.

? What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?

You’ll most likely find me drinking coffee and hanging out with my cat Arnie on the weekend. If I'm not with Arnie or drinking coffee, however, I’ll be baking a cake, hiking or watching a movie.

? What three words would your friends use to describe you?

  1. Loving
  2. Passionate
  3. Excitable
