Tom Wood

Hi!

My name is Tom Wood and I am running with Grassroots to be your Social Justice Officer.

I am dedicated to fighting for a society that promotes fairness, equality and dignity. This drives my activism with Anti-Poverty Network SA, where I am the Campaigns Coordinator. As part of this activism, I have established Students for Anti-Poverty Action on campus.

At Adelaide, I am active in several clubs. I am the founding President of the Social Sciences Society and a committee member of the Arts Students Association.

As your Social Justice Officer, I will:

Education Policy

  • Fight the Vice-Chancellor’s faculty mergers and job cuts
  • Petition to cut the Vice-Chancellor’s million-dollar salary
  • Advocate the end of ProctorU for online exams

Ethical Investment

  • Lobby the University to:
    • Divest from fossil fuels and the weapons industry
    • Create more opportunities for students in renewables
    • Implement ethical sourcing requirements for university merchandise and materials

Student Welfare

  • Campaign to lower the Centrelink age of independence from 22 to 18
  • And lobby the University to:
    • Establish a Student Poverty Taskforce
    • Allow counsellors to sign off on Access Plans
    • Begin a Disability Inclusion Week
