Chas Davis

Hi, I’m Chas and I’m running for General Councillor with Grassroots.

Our University is invested in the continued destruction of the environment and must be held to account.

The existential crisis posed by climate change demands our University urgently act by divesting from fossil fuels, use renewable energy, and commit to achieving net-zero emissions.

Amounting to 50% of Australia’s annual methane emissions, animal agriculture is also a major polluting industry and has no place in a sustainable future.

The University-funded Davies Livestock Research Institute was founded “to ensure the sustainability of the red meat industry” but not of our planet and our University should instead redirect funding to more ethical animal research.

No less important, our university must demonstrate its commitment to student safety and wellbeing by increasing funding for sexual violence training programs.

To that end, the failure of the AUU to affiliate the Women’s Collective, Pro-Choice Club, and Endometriosis Society is contemptuous and if the AUU wont affiliate these clubs then the SRC must.
