Hi, I'm James Dimas - he/him - and I'm running for SRC General Councillor. The SRC is a fine Institution that has been around for decades, however, the problems students face today require nuanced, innovative solutions.

As a first-year student, there is a common perception that institutions like the SRC which claim to 'give students a voice at the University', go through a constant cycle of people doing nothing. Inaction and indecision currently define the SRC.
In the face of our current crisis, our university is as divided as ever. We've seen no definitive stance on staff cuts, minimal transparency, discrimination and silencing of women, and the translation of students as a number. We need our SRC to value our students not disregard them.

Without the input of students, we have no SRC.

Well, I am a student, one who values all individuals irrespective of race, gender, religion or socioeconomic status and one who is currently a Director of an up-and-coming grassroots NGO, FightForTuvalu, working with the UN. I want to give the SRC the revitalisation it so desperately needs.

Shouldn't your Student Representative Council look like you? Empowered by you?

Progressive, Active, Accountable.
