Ramon O'Donnell

Hi, I'm Ramon, I'm a second year Psychology student running with Left Action.
The SRC as it currently exists has shown no interest in fighting for the rights of students, refusing the most basic of actions of opposing university's attacks on our quality of education or even condemning the military coup in Myanmar earlier this year. We think that the SRC shouldn't just be a PR firm for the uni, but should be a force that fights against the pro-business agenda of the university and rallies around broader issues in society that students care about, be that racism, climate change or other issues. To do this we can't just limit ourselves to lobbying the university or writing letters to politicians and management, we need to mobilise the mass of students around issues that matter to them.
As a student activist I've been involved in the campaigns supporting the fight for Palestinian liberation, School Strikes for Climate and the education rallies in opposition to Peter Hoj's attacks on staff and students. I want to bring these issues to the SRC and fight to rebuild a left wing student movement that can challenge the powers that control our society.
