General Secretary

Evi Cacas

Degree and Year of study: I'm currently in my final year of a double degree in Law and International Studies.

What inspired you to engage with the office and the role you currently hold?

Given the ongoing challenges associated with student life, which have been exacerbated due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I think it is important now, more than ever, to address students' needs, whether they are academic, social and personal. The past year has seen students face substantial challenges and the SRC’s role, is to address students’ needs and demands. I wanted to make a change and work to better the student community, I felt that the SRC was a great platform to do so.

What do you hope to achieve in your office and role in 2021?

I want to work with the SRC to create effective resolutions to address students' needs and concern. I especially want to focus on developing initiatives that focus on the detrimental fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic.

What Clubs are you involved with at UofA?

I'm a member of the Adelaide University Law Students Society and the Adelaide University Greek Club.

What led you to join the clubs?

I was encouraged to join by other members.

Favourite holiday destination/activity?

Strolling through the streets of Spain/ Punting on the River Cam at the University of Cambridge.

Favourite place to study on campus?

Quiet study rooms in the Law Library

What advice would you give to students starting out at the University of Adelaide?

Don't confine yourself to one friendship group, you are at an institution with 20,000+ students, go and meet people. Also, remain focused on your studies, Uni isn't a free pass to slack off. Enjoy the pub crawls, society balls and Friday night Unibar hangs but keep focussed, remember there is life after Uni.
